曲婉婷 - 我的歌声里

Got pretty hooked tot his song ever since I heard it from the live band at Beer Market

0.083/10 days to Thailand

E and I turned 0.083 years yesterday! Hahaha. It felt so long but it has just been... 1 month?! The poor boy was stuck at guard duty last night so we couldn't head out for dinner, but all's good because we had quite a good meal at Nakhon Kitchen coupled by a great movie - Horrible Bosses 2, on Monday and there's nothing more I could ask for.

On a side note

its just 10 days to Thailand xxxxx

accommodation and train tickets settled, but itchy backside we wanna try the camp experience on Doi Suthep. They gave a contact number (no email) to call to make enquiry in advance in case they are not available during that period, so I asked mum to help me call since they say its better to have someone who can speak Thai to converse. If all goes well then I can alter my Doi Suket accommodation to just 1 night but i feel so bad because we'll be staying with a hill tribe in Doi Suket and maybe they need that extra money for something? Okay nvm, see how la.

can't wait x

Recipe: Biscuits (Popeye's)

Been MIA for a while as mentioned by my stalker aka E. I've been more active on Dayre because its so much more convenient on my phone!

Anyway, so on Monday I was craving for some Popeye's biscuits, the one thats crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, so I decided to make myself some. Ran out of milk and eggs and luckily I managed to find a no milk no egg recipe which was super fuss-free too - everything could be done within 30 minutes, including baking time. Very easy right!

Ingredients you'll need:

220g of flour (I used plain flour, all purpose works too)
3 tsp of baking powder
1 tsp of salt (add a bit lesser)
6 tbsp of oil/shortening (I used vegetable oil)
180ml of water

1 capful vanilla essence (optional)

Steps

#1 Preheat oven to 230 degree Celsius
#2 Mix all ingredients
#3 Knead the ingredients together.
#4 Ball the dough into size you want and place them on lined baking tray, with slight gaps.

#5 Bake for about 10-12 minutes

Tadah!

For people with mini OCD like me who hates to get their hands sticky, just knead with your bare hands la. It's actually quite therapeutic haha.

These biscuits go super well with maple syrup or jam, and you can even add in your favourite dried fruit for a different taste! Just tried making a batch with raisins ^^

Enjoy x

Itinerary bitch

Finally got down to planning the itinerary for the Thailand trip. But not a very wise move because E is away for field camp for the next few days and will be uncontactable, and I don't have his passport details with me.

Planning itineraries have always been a bitch to me. I'm currently torn between going for tours or just exploring around on our own because of the limited time we have before going back to Bangkok to catch our flight. But even settling accommodation is a bitch when I get so tempted by all the pretty and interesting choices, for example this Treehouse Resort (only S$44 per night!) The really cool thing staying there is the chance to experience living in a treehouse. Where can you find that, honestly.

Also in my choices will be the cottages/bungalows with scenic river view, and lastly a modern hotel design in case E complains of the rest being too old.

He's super fussy, more like the girlfriend than me. Shall just wait for his return and let him choose. BURDEN.

Working Title/8Q@SAM/Changi Airport

E: we can go check out the hawker fest first, eat a bit there then visit a nice cafe?
Me: where where where
E: Any you want to visit? We haven't been to a cafe together. Let's be hippy today lol

So E decided to be a hippy today, and so we did. Visited the Ultimate Hawker Fest at Suntec City which we were quite disappointed by. Firstly, the Hawker Fest didn't have much stalls, and secondly, the food were overpriced. Definitely not gonna pay $5 for carrot cake, and $15 for Bak Kut Teh!

Decided to head down to Working Title for some proper food. The cafe's a shophouse, which started off as a bed and breakfast place, before they decided to make use of the base level as a cafe. Loved the design of the cafe, very simple very indie, and they even had an air conditioned courtyard at the back, very pretty.

The food came pretty fast, we didn't really have to wait for too long. Food was not bad, E and I shared an All Day Big Breakfast (because the poor boy can't really eat, stupid ulcers) and a pot of Moroccan Mint Green Tea. The food portion was pretty generous, and the tea was refreshing, to my liking since I like minty stuff.

Headed to 8Q@SAM for their photobooth(they call it selfiebooth) since we were nearby. $2 for 4 shots, and they come out in 2 strips, black and white and coloured, which means you have both coloured and b/w of each shot. We took a total of 3 times and both of us love how the black and white effect makes the goofy photos look goofier, and the sweet ones look sweeter. Not dissing the coloured ones though, I love both okay?
But we not so shallow la. Went to walk around the current Still Moving exhibition. I also quite artistic, right?

Was still pretty early to head home so we decided to take a bus to Changi Airport, to chill a bit at the viewing hall. The viewing hall has changed so much since the last time I was there, about 6 years ago, when I'd go there in the afternoon alone, with my Ten Year Series, preparing for O levels. Now they've added a play area for kids and its super noisy. Oh and now the airport is full of these Mickey and Minnie decorations for Christmas, so tourist shot yay

On a side note, so excited for our upcoming trip in December!!! 25 more daysssssss I CAN'T WAIT.

I keep telling E today feels like a Sunday because he got to book in tomorrow for his field camp. So to E if you are reading this, once again, please remember your meds, do drink up, hydrate yourself and don't push too hard if you really feel unwell. Stay safe, and see you soon, love.

Reliving: first hangout

E suggested that we should have a picnic on Friday night so we did, after my work. E and I had a pretty full lunch at work, with him not being able to eat much due to the millions of ulcers in his mouth, so our picnic this time round was really simple. A croissant, some simple sushi from umisushi and 2 bottles of water with my laptop.

We decided to go Henderson Waves, reliving our very first hangout, except this time, as a couple. Watched Think like A Man Too because the part 1 was too funny. Time flies as usual, and soon enough the stars were out and we were looking up at the sky, counting stars again, just like the very first time. And as expected, he couldn't see the stars I could see, I really wonder how he got into NDU with that eyesight hahaha, or am I the one seeing things?  Some photos from last night ^^

The first few times we went out, we would always meet from evening onwards (because he's a nsman) and would usually stay out till late. And even when he's mad tired/have something on the next day he'd always say

"its okay, I can stay out for a while more"

And that "a while more" would always be till at least 4am.

Anyway, shall not digress. The night sky at Henderson Waves is actually quite pretty, provided you find a nice dark spot away from the many spotlights on the bridge. Maybe not as pretty as those you'll see overseas, but pretty enough for a bustling urban jungle.

goofball

Can't decide if it would be better having a boyfriend who would just stand there and stare at you while you do a rendition of funny stupid dance moves around him in the kitchen, or a boyfriend who does a mini dance off session with you with his equally stupid dance moves.

Still can't figure it out, but I'm glad I have a mix of both. One who would stare at me first, pretending to judge me, and then take me by surprise with his silly dance moves, leaving me in stitches.

Future (updated)

Okay, now I'm considering Chulalongkorn University too, one of the top universities in Bangkok.

Future

The thought of hunting for a suitable full time job after December scares me. Suddenly it dawned upon me that I really have no idea what my future is going to be. I don't know where my interest really lies - Events or Media. though I really like both, I think I like Media better? But then again, will I be able to take it? The life of Media? And that got me thinking about school. People who'd been on this topic with me knows that I have no intention to go back to school, at least not now. But I know that if I don't continue studying now i will never get back to studying, but what do I want to do? Media has soooo much writing to do, and I think I may just drown.

Was considering Bangkok University, I don't know why, but it just seemed closer to home and maybe the more inexpensive option, and reading up on the things they provide, it doesn't seem so bad either. And I like the accommodation! A whole floor in some condominium privately owned by the campus, The Lumpini Place Rama 4 - at 11,000 baht per month, per unit.

Yes, you're gonna say I wanna go there because of the nice place, I admit, partly - all the street food, cheaper expenses, shopping... but on a serious note, its gonna be muchhhh closer to home and so much easier for friends and family to pop by to visit over the weekend or something! And even if its still gonna be a ldr with E, its gonna be a closer than Australia/New Zealand/UK kinda ldr, no?

But yeah, its all too early to say. Shall ask mum if she's willing to give me a loan for my studies, and I'll pay her back after slogging, keeping my fingers crossed.

Why is money so important...

Black Beans Brownies (with recipe)

Brought some of the brownies for the ndu boys ytd and they said its nice, but stopped in their tracks when I told them its made of kidney beans hahaha I shouldn't have said. But E told me that they finished everything so that's good! ^^

Anw, here's the recipe!

Black Bean Brownie:

425g black beans, rinsed and drained thoroughly
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup rolled oats
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/4 cup brown sugar
18 oz of honey/maple syrup
1/4 cup coconut/vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract (I used vanilla essence)
1 1/2 tbsp water
A sprinkle of choc chips (opt, but I added)
2 tbsp peanut butter (opt, I didn't add)

Steps:

#1: preheat oven 18 degree Celsius
#2: add all ingredients into a food processor and process until smooth
#3: line 8x8 tray with baking paper, pour in mixture. Bake for 25 minutes
#4: cool in tray before fridging for 45 minutes
#5: cut in squares, serve!

I've replaced black beans with kidney beans because black beans were out of stock EVERYWHERE and I checked online that kidney beans or some other beans can be used to substitute/experiment too

The end product is pretty thick and yummy, and tastes like real brownies. Its high in protein and a guilt free treat good for pre/post workout and no more feeling bad even after satisfying that sweet tooth ^^

Ps. Do remember to blend the mixture well and mix sure no more lumps of beans can be seen. I didn't mix well enough so I could see bits of my beans in my brownies.

Enjoy x

eat clean - new bakes!

Woke up in time, actually way before I need to be up, feeling all excited to try out new recipes. Washed up and went to the market to get the ingredients I need, but there's one crucial ingredient I needed that I cannot find anywhere, even after going to City Square Mall and United Square. Decided to replace it with kidney beans since the recipe said its okay. Got busy the moment I got home and honestly I was pretty skeptical because who would have thought that beans could be used to make brownies!

After blending everthing together, the mix was of a gooey texture, and it actually tastes yummy, which made me even more excited for the outcome - online reviews were all positive!!!

Tadah! Super super happy it turned out well, though some beans can still be seen because I didnt blend it well enough. But still yummy la. Brought some out of the house for Reggy to try because I met her for lunch and she said its good, and she got a shock when I told her its made from kidney beans hahahah - because she don't like kidney beans.

Me: how is it? Is it nice?
R: nice! Its good.
Me: does it tastes like brownies?
R: (rolls eyes) duh?!
Me: (laughs) its made from kidney beans
R: (wide eye, shocked) huh?! And I dont eat kidney beans
Me: I know. So this is to 骗小孩子 to eat their beans

Hahaha love this girl. Meeting E for liberty soon, brought some for the ndu boys, hoping for more feedback! Will post the recipe tonight! :)

eating clean

Chanced upon the editor's pick on dayre and read her posts, mainly about recipes on clean food and I'm so motivated to start eating clean again!!! Gonna try out some recipes tomorrow hopefully!

Me: I need to start eating clean again.
E: have you ever eaten clean? Your definition of eating clean is not proper.
Me: I have!!! There's a period I really eat clean, make my own meals etc
E: you're doing fine. Your body is in good shape.
Me: I need a better shape honey.

Hahaha got so defensive when E said I've never eaten clean. How dare he?! Its just that eating clean requires time (to prepare my own meals) and money (to get the thousands of ingredients) and sad to say, the world is full of temptations! :/

A better one from my best friend...

Me: I need to start eating clean again...
R: Go become a rabbit.
Me: idiot. Eat clean very expensive actually sigh
R: just buy the carrots enough already what.

People in my life.... how supportive. Speaking of eating clean, food at Superhero concept are all prepared with olive oil and purified water so i guess my meals at work are considered pretty healthy?

Anyhoo, hope I wake up in time for some grocery shopping in the morning, and also to drag my ass off the suction of my bed for a short run.

P.S if you have any tips for toning up/shedding unwanted fats or yummy eat clean recipes to share, please feel free to comment!

work

Got a last min text from boss this morning if I could work, and luckily I woke up just in time. Had a long long day at work, ending my shift only abt 5pm?! Usually I'll be done around 2pm. Today's crowd was slow for dine in but people were still walking in at 4pm, whereas most orders were delivery and we had to rush the deadline. Not a suit up day but because some customers came in hope to see some superheros, I had to transform. Supergirl for today!

But then again, supergirl falls sick too. Feeling a little under the weather. Rushed home to showered and lie in the comfort of my bed because of the headache that followed. Must be due to the crazy insomnia and running in the rain these few days. But I think chocolate is my kryptonite, I felt at least 10% better after popping some Fruities (chocolate coated raisins, my fave!!!) in my mouth despite loud cries from my brain to not to. To think I wanted to come home for a short run after work.... when will it ever happen?

Best Of Me

Been on a movie rampage lately and caught Best of Me - our 4th movie (I think) for this week earlier.

The movie, a typical Nicholas Sparks movie, so heartwrenching and super romantic at the same time, leaving me bawling on and off during the movie - E's hands were so busy wiping my tears hahaha

If you're a fan of romance, this is almost like a must watch. Also a bonus: the female leads are so pretty so is the male lead, very hot - the grown up version.

Before I Go To Sleep

Caught Before I Go To Sleep last night with E. Saw the trailer of the movie and it kinda lured us to watch it and I didnt regret? The show was super thrilling and slightly mindfucking but that's what makes it interesting right?

For those who like to be mindfucked, watch it! I kinda like it :)

(proudly written by Ernest)

Greetings readers of iwantgummybears.blogspot.com. Sad to say, the weekend is coming to an end which means that my handsome, dashing, suave, sexy, hot, boyfriend will be booking in soon. Let me describe what kind of a person he is to give you readers a better image of him. He's way better looking than brad pitt, way hotter than Ryan Gosling, definitely more charismatic than tom cruise, certainly sexier than David Beckham and he's no doubt the nicest and most loving MAN in the whole damn world. I got mesmerised by his voice the first time he sang for me, and because of him, I fell in love with this song - I see fire by ed sheeran. But sorry ladies and gentlemen, that amazing, angelic voice is only for my ears.  Not to brag but no voice in the world can be compared to his. Not even that disgusting dude justin beaver. That's all for now folks. He's scolding me for describing him in such a manner. Look at how humble he is. By the way, is name is Ernest. And he's mine ladies. Ciaos!

(Just to disclaim again, this post was written by him, using my name. I feel so wronged.)

Love aside, it's NERF time!

Good 2d1n spent at Gallery Hotel last night! E asked me on Thursday if I wanted a staycation and I casually said okay and he got it done immediately. So effective, so rare...

Brought my NERF gun/crossbow out because there's hardly any chance to play at home so why not play in the room! Had a crazy nerf war this morning, and when I say war, its really love aside, its wartime - all the sly moves of tickling, tackling, kicking, grabbing and of course, merciless shooting.

Need a nerf war again!

Short videos on how E and I tackled each other on the "warzone"

thinking of getting more guns, but I think my grandma might kill me.

Superhero Concept

Just done with day 1 of work at Superhero Concept! Its a cafe with Japanese bento infused with marvel merchandising. Headed down for an interview yesterday and decided to start today, since it's a part time thing, and I'm free anyway. Putting my Wonderwoman costume to good use when the boss knew I have it he asked me to wear them for work today, footwear was provided by him, because they do have their own customised costume and the boots fit me perfectly yay! So here's day 1 at work - filling bento sets, giving out flyers, serving the bentos and of course taking photos with the customers (I mean, when do you get Wonderwoman serving you food?)

Kinda love the concept of the cafe, fully decorated with superhero merchandise, some are even limited edition from the boss' own collection! They do sell some superhero apparels as well, and its definitely a place good for photos, with marvel weapons you can use as props.

The cafe space is also for rent for parties or events, and there are also superheros for hire! So if you want to hold a party, this place is actually good for about 60pax. Location is pretty good too, you can probably head down to the bars nearby after for some chill session.

Do drop by, you'll be able to catch me on weekdays between 12 to 4!

burden Shrek (gv story)

Oh and something funny happened today and I just had to "pen" this down!!!

So I was coming down to Yishun from Bugis and the bus was taking so long and all and the movie was at 1830 but I was still on the bus at 1820. So E asked the boys to help us get tix and leave it at the counter and of course they needed our names for verification right? He told me he asked the boys to put it under Taylor (Lautner) and Burden, obviously saying I'm the burden, but the boys ingeniously put him as Shrek hehe. Oh my fave ogre, don't you love your friends? Conversation of E and the GV lady at the counter  -

E: Uh, we have 2 tickets to Interstellar here.
GV: Your names?
E: Taylor.
GV: Wrong.
E: Burden.
GV: Burden is correct.

And as we took over the tickets both of us burst out laughing, and of course the lady at the counter did too. I thought he was kidding when he texted me and say he asked them to put the tickets under the names Taylor and Burden.

Life with this boy... no complaints (yet) hahaha :)

Interstellar

Caught Interstellar with the ndu boys at Yishun during their liberty. Was raining so heavily after the movie and there was no shelter from the theatres back to North Point.

E: how to cross like that?
Me: run la.
E: like that ah? -points to rain
Me: ya la then?

And we ran across the road into the shelter, with him whining more than me. Sometimes I think I behave more like a guy than he does hahaha

Anw back to the movie... The movie was great, so mindfucking! The last time I caught a space movie, it sucked so much I can't even remember the title. Also to add, the movie was fucking long too, nearly 3 hours, 169min?! But very good la worth the watch!

And today I realised Anne Hathaway got the indian nose. Idk why, but her really sharp nose (and maybe eyes too) makes her look a tad bit Indian. #justsaying

Another day well spent x

Th Book of Life

Lucky boy has been getting liberties almost daily, and we decided to catch Book of Life last night. An interesting animated film with good moral values like not forgetting to be true to yourself, doing things from your heart and fighting for what's right. And I really like how they do not stereotype bad kids and instead build a connection with them in the movie (oops spoiler!) The animation was pretty amazing with really good graphics too. E enjoyed it though he's not big on animation, so I would say go watch it!

they snow, we rain

Weather has been a bitch lately, wet weather throughout the vital part of the day aka in the afternoon. And coming from someone who hates wet floor, this is not good. The worst part is that it has to rain everytime I step out of a place. Yesterday it started pouring after I woke up and when I'm done showering, it stopped. And just when I thought its safe to go out, it started pouring again. And today? Started pouring the moment I decided on a location to go from Bras Besah. Thankfully I met a nice person, who offered me his slightly faulty umbrella :')

With all the Sim Lim scam cases etc lately, its really a treat and heartwarming to know there's still people with a heart in Singapore! (God bless the one who statted up the fund raising for the poor Viet worker)

Revamped

Finally revamped my blog after using the old blogskin for a really long time! As you guys know, I'm not a very tech savvy person, and everytime I try to change a blogskin it takes me ages to get everything set up and edited (it took me about 3-4 hours to get everything done here) so I usually get too lazy, and it also helped that I really loved my previous polaroid skin. But I realised navigation of that blogskin is slightly harder, not to mention Blogger has been prompting me to update my template (my previous template is of the old version without all the widgets) so tadah - my latest creation!

Feel free to drop me a comment or email me if you have anything you'd wanna ask me about!

Nakhon Kitchen

Nakhon Kitchen is my top favourite place, excluding Golden Mile, in SG to get yummy thai food. They have 4 outlets - Bedok, Kovan, Ang Mo Kio and the latest addition in the west, Bukit Panjang.

E managed to get liberty tonight so we decided to have our weekly thai food at Nakhon, again!

Tom yum seafood clear soup - a definite on EVERY visit,  even when I go alone!

Honey chicken - our current 'will order' everytime we're there

Minced pork omelette - there's just something about thai omelettes. We usually get the prawn one though

Pineapple fried rice - I'm really picky when it comes to pineapple fried rice, but the one here is yums

My very first visit was the one at Bedok, then when I found out that there's an outlet nearer to home (Kovan), I just kept going back, even bringing friends for their virgin Nakhon experience! My friends will always ask me for recommendations for Thai food, because I'm the half blood Thai, and always (most of the time) eating Thai food. But the one I visit more often now is the outlet at Ang Mo Kio because usually we'll have our weekly thai food ritual during liberty and it's the nearest for E.

One thing to note, Nakhon is forever having long queues, so be sure to go early! (They are closed on Wednesdays and between 3pm to 530pm daily)

alas, Frendo!

Another great day with an old friend that I haven't met for 2 years! But so glad there was no awkwardness when we met and there were tight big hugs too!

Had a great catch up session over yummy food at Isteaks at Serangoon Gardens MyVillage, reminiscing old times and updating each other about our lives. Time fliesssss, we're all growing up so fast, too soon. We first met 5 years ago during FOC, we were pretty much a big group. Over time, some left. Everyone got busy and moved on. But I'm so glad and grateful that there are some who still hold this friendship dear. The next meet up will definitely not be in 2 years time!

But you can't hold onto water,
It fills you up but never stays,
Only good to wash away today.

Jing Hua Restaurant & kopitalk

Finally meeting Yonghua after soooo long because he was having his exams.

Went to Jing Hua Restaurant, a dim sum place at Bugis Village. It's so low profile that I've never noticed it even though I always walk past that area. Upon entering, the place has the vibe of a typical chinese restaurant  and the staffs, made up of the older generation, were really friendly and nice

Where do you find a 3 course single person set lunch at only $8.50? Here!!!! Super cheap, so we ordered 2 single set lunch to try the different varieties.

zha jiang mian - never really tried much to compare, but the sauce here is lighter compared to others, not too jelad. Portion is good too.

xiao long bao - yummy meat juice oozing out at the very first bite, but I guess I had higher expectations because of the blog review I read.

boiled pork dumplings - similar to xlb, juicy!

steamed vegetarian dumplings - doesn't taste very vegetarian-ish so its good to go even for meat lovers!

My favourite favourite favourite of the lunch will be the rose flavoured glutinous rice balls! We were mad full after our 3 course meal EACH, but I guess sitting there chitchatting an enjoying the zircon did help a little with the digestion. And also, the blogger did mention like the glutinous rice balls are damn yums so how can I not try?! They have two flavours - osmathus and rose. The blog review recommended osmanthus but we wanted to give the rose a try. The aunty say is to 养颜 aka something to do with beauty and skin. For the glutinous rice balls you can choose either all different flavours or all of the same so we chose different flavours. The soup was super yummy, totally loved it and the skin of the glutinous balls were not too thick yums! I'm definitely going back for more next time.

One of the reasons why I said the staffs were really nice was because I was too full to finish my noodles, and while clearing they asked me is it because it wasn't to my liking. Normally people just don't care? +++ service points

Went to walk around Bugis after our meal and realised yet again that this little island is running out of things for us to do. At least in that area. Or maybe we are just two really wrong combination because we always have nothing in mind and end up wandering hahaha. Headed down to Arab Street area to look for some place decent to sit and drink and I suggested the little coffeeshop Claudius. brought me to early last year at the corner of Bussorah St.

Their milk tea is so yummy, I think it's actually comparable to my favourite thai iced milk tea. it is that good. The location is quite warm though, with no fans etc, thankfully there were occasional bouts of wind while we sat there and talked. Always nice to catch up with old friends!

Was supposed to meet E for his liberty but change of plans so decided to walk home from Newton (because I was already on the bus when plans changed). Wanted to try a new route home and realised this route actually brings me home much faster, and also introduced me to quite a few housings around that I was never aware of, together with a pretty view of the evening sky and a cute little Japanese boy.

Always love walking around aimlessly, rediscovering places, clearing my head in the process.
